What is an MRI?

WebMD defines MRI: "Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a test that uses powerful magnets, radio waves, and a computer to make detailed pictures inside your body. Your doctor can use this test to diagnose you or to see how well you've responded to treatment. Unlike X-rays and CT scans, an MRI doesn't use radiation."

Simply put, an MRI is a non-invasive diagnostic imaging tool that gives your doctor a better picture of how to treat your specific injury.

Does MRI cause pain?

Absolutely not! MRI is a completely non-invasive imaging procedure that uses powerful magnets and radio waves via computer to take images of the inside of your body. An MRI does not cause pain. Some scans may require IV contrast, which causes no more discomfort than a normal blood test. Please let us know of any pain you are in prior to your scan, so that we may accommodate your needs.

How do I prepare for my MRI?

If you are scheduled for an MRI, there are several things you should do to prepare for your scan. Let our facility know of any and all medical devices you use (in, on, and outside of your body) and always arrive 15-20 minutes prior to your appointment to fill out any necessary forms.

How long does an MRI take?

Each MRI is unique and the time ranges greatly. An MRI can take anywhere from 20 minutes to over an hour, depending on the reason for the test. Please prepare accordingly and allow for as much time as necessary on the day of your appointment to complete your scan. At Iconic Imaging, patient care is our priority. We do our best to make patients feel comfortable and ensure a complete understanding of the MRI process prior to the scan.
